My goodness does this look a lot like my own childhood journal entries. The lists! The LISTS!

I recently found a letter I wrote to myself in grade seven as part of a school assignment. It's very funny because it opens with a long missive about how war is obviously very stupid and hypocritical of adults, men should be allowed to express their emotions, and that true bravery is being honest about how you feel...followed by a list of My Enemies and Things I Hate.

Oh to be thirteen.

Love the inventory of your world. That note about the sleepover is a heartbreaker.

I have a theory about this—I would have been ten going on eleven, and I think I was imagining twelve as a perfect age. I remember clearly when I began thinking that thirteen was the perfect age, because I read all the Babysitter's Club books. Must have come later.

The “eco. setting” slayed me (I believe I see a period there, excellent punctuation at such a young age).

Ummm, I think the fact you begin each entry"Dear Kitty", à la Anne Frank, deserves an honorable mention as well. : )

Yes! I mention this in the essay, but you are correct—I was obsessed with the Diary of Anne Frank, and this was a direct... let's call it an homage? Also the diary had a big white Persian cat on the cover.
